During the 3-week theatre run
of THIR$TY, a range of water-related community events and activities
are taking place at the Roundhouse (Davie at Pacific). Events
are all free or by donation.
Note: All activities are either child-friendly, or have on-site
childcare provided for the duration of the event (details below).
The Roundhouse Community Centre is fully wheelchair accessible.

Friday March 22
World Water Day Celebrations,
2-6pm, Free
In celebration of World Water Day (and the last day of Spring
Break!), the Council of Canadians and Check Your Head present
an afternoon of fun and educational events for the whole family.
Play Water Wizards, a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure interactive water
game for kids of all ages! Join in water-related crafts and community
mapping for kids, play with fun interactive water models, take
an interpretive walk around False Creek. Be part of a Water Parade
with the Carnival Band!

False Creek Boat Tours, 9:30am-12:30pm,

Get to know False Creek by getting
aboard Aquabus 16-seat ferry for a free 45 minute cruise. Your
guide for the cruise will inform you about our local ecosystem
and related False Creek trivia. Meet at the Roundhouse prior
to departing from David Lam Park. Limited seating available,
so pre-register in advance at the Roundhouse front desk, or by
phone 604.713.1800. Rain or shine, dress for the weather, all

Roundhouse Family Water Day,
1-4pm, Free
Explore your connection to water
through an afternoon full of activities going on at the Roundhouse!
Take in magical storytelling, music and drama. Join in games,
and a communal art activity for the whole family! Explore water
through interactive displays and facilitated activities for people
of all ages (facilitated by GVRD water educators). Find out where
our water comes from, and where it goes! Fun for all
Panel discussion at Open the
Borders! Conference, 1-4 pm
As part of this weekend-long
international conference, Oscar Olivera, of Bolivia's Coordinadora
en Defensa del Agua y de la Vida (Alliance in Defense of Water
& Life) will speak on the struggle for control over water
and displacement of peoples. The panel: "Globalization and
the Worldwide Crisis of Displacement and Migration" will
also feature Nogi Imoukhuede (Nigeria), Bridget Anderson (England),
Marta Colorado (Vancouver/ Colombia), and Aiyyana Maracle (Grunt
Gallery/ Vancouver). Admission to session $0-25 sliding scale.

Sunday March 24
International Panel on the 'Global
Water Commons', 2-6pm, By donation. (Proceeds to support work
of the international panelists).
Canada is playing a key role
in international water policy. However, the path our government
is taking through trade negotiations is leading to the commodification
and privatization of the global water commons. Join us for an
exciting panel discussion that focuses on global water issues
in Latin America, Europe, and Canada. We will discuss Democracy
and Human Rights in Global Water Struggles; International Trade
and Aboriginal Title; and Blue Gold: What is Canada doing to
Share and Protect the Global Water Commons?.

Monday March 25
The Journey: Sacred Living Water
, 7:30pm. By donation. (Proceeds to the Uts'am Witness Project)
Shel Neufeld delivers a blend
of jazzy acoustic guitar playing and projected photographs, from
glaciers and old growth valleys to community mobilizations for
change, highlighting journeys of our sacred, yet threatened water
supply. Speaker Aaron Nelson-Moody of the Squamish Nation will
open the evening with traditional songs.
Saturday March 30
Linking Water Struggles, 11-3pm,
Free / 2 for 1 matinee
From Chile to First Nations communities
in BC, Palestine to Colombia, communities are struggling against
colonization and exploitation of their resources. A panel discussion
featuring representatives from various communities will delve
into questions of water and conflict/displacement, global trade
and corporate control over resources. The 11-12:30 pm panel leads
into a THIR$TY matinee (1-3pm) in which the post-performance
discussion will focus on the linking struggles theme.
Supervised activities for children (storytelling, crafts,
etc.) will be available during the panel AND matinee.
Saturday April 6
THIR$TY International Webcast,
1pm
Canada's first full-length professional
theatre webcast! The THIR$TY web cast provides Headlines Theatre
with a medium to reach beyond the local to explore issues of
importance to a broader global audience. If you have friends

A daylong series of presentations
and workshops focused on local and provincial water issues and
action. What is the state of our water? What are our local, provincial
and national governments doing, or not doing, to protect it?
? What should our democratic role be? A day for getting informed
and involved with water
Hosted by Water Watch, a cross-sectoral coalition of organizations.
